The dark purple, glossy, elongated fruit measure 6-8 inches long by 1-1.5 inches wide, with a purple calyx (or stem), and tender, thin skin. Medium-sized plants are very attractive and productive, producing loads of lavender blooms followed by semi-spineless fruits that mature about 70-80 days from transplant. Shikou is a Japanese word meaning “Supreme.” Fruits boast a bright white interior with few seeds and are easy to prepare - just slice and sauté or stir-fry.
